7 Before & After: Living Room Fireplace
>> Sunday, March 14, 2010
You knew it. We knew it. Ralph knew it. The orange brick had to go. Fast. With just two coats of Kilz and 2 coats of flat paint, we were already jumping for joy at the difference…
We wanted to warm up the nook a bit, and once again, the paint samples we picked up when trying to decide between wall colors came in handy. We opted to paint the wall behind the fireplace just a shade darker than the wall color already in the living room…
Next up, a few lanterns we had hanging around made for a simple way to give this decorative fireplace a glimpse of its intended purpose…a place to hold fire.
Pardon the dog beds & dust bunnies, I caught a serious case of the lazies on this fine Sunday morning…

Much better! Love the lanterns!
Thanks, Candice! Definitely much improved. Now we need to figure out a solution for the cable box/DVD player/massive quantity of wires taking over our life since our TV is on top of the fireplace...

Great idea! When I used to live in London, my friends would have these old, small, unused fireplaces in their homes and they put an assortment of candles inside the fireplace to give it depth. It was very romantic when they lit all the candles.
p.s. was the fireplace already there? Or did you buy it as a prop?
Thanks, shopgirl! I feel very European after reading your comment!
The fireplace was already in the house when we bought it. We are big fireplace people, working or not, but we were not a fan of the orange brick.
Glad you stopped by!
