2 Neck of the Woods: Riverdale

>> Wednesday, May 6, 2009

Athough my childhood home was in Cammack Village, looking back, my family spent a great deal of time in the Riverdale neighborhood of Little Rock. Not only did the majority of our soccer games and ballet classes take place in Riverdale, but the restaurants and parks were, and still are, a great attraction for families.

Situated on the Arkansas River, Riverdale contains a considerable amount of warehouses, served by Union Pacific rail lines that travel through the area. Riverdale is also home to Dillard's Department Stores and is noted for landmark restaurants such as Cajun's Wharf, Buffalo Grill, Loca Luna and Brave New Restaurant.

Part of the lure to Riverdale for shoppers is the emphasis on design-oriented businesses, with specialty retailers offering antiques, fine fabrics, and plants, to name a few. Cynthia East Fabrics, mertinsdykehome, and About Vase are all located in Riverdale.

Upscale gated communities and condominiums can be found in the area, including Canal Pointe and the new Riviera Condos. Check out this amazing view from the back deck of a Canal Pointe home...

Riverdale also boasts Rebsamen Golf Course, the city's largest public golf course, and Murray Park. Our big guy, Ralph, gives the dog park two thumbs--I mean paws--up!

Love this area, sadly I haven't ever been to many of the stores. Maybe we should do a shop and see soon! Who knows what ideas we could get!

Good thinking! There are a lot of really great stores that offer unique items that you won't find everywhere.
