0 Dining Room Digs, Take Two

>> Thursday, July 5, 2012

Maybe I’m in a bit of a dining room rut this week, but I’m completely ok with it..and you will be too after you catch a glimpse at Carmel at Our Fifth House’s dining room digs. Not only is the furniture perfectly rustically chic, but all the windows decked out with plantations shutter and clean white and white curtains are heaven.

The farmhouse table with bench is right up my ally…

…And I’m dying for the chairs. Jut try and tell me these aren’t high on the list of the most precious chairs you’ve ever seen.

2 Before & After: Dated Dining Room DIY

>> Tuesday, July 3, 2012

Two things I love: a good before & after and a white room. Smash them together and you have The Ironstone Nest’s precious dining room DIY makeover. From paneling to perfect, dated to how-you-doin’, this before & after seriously gets my reno-loving heart pitter-pattering and once again proves the power of a lot of paint and a little elbow grease…

2 Anniversary Recap: Dining Room

>> Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Day two of my stroll down memory lane brings us straight to the dining room.

Note to the reader: I completely understand if you are insanely bored by my nauseating love for my house, but if you think for one second that it will keep me from reliving the past year with the love of my life, oh goodness, you could not be more wrong.

Truly one of the most haunting sights. Stained carpet, curtains so ancient they disintegrate at the touch, terribly dated brass light fixture and, oh yes, the enormous wallpaper plantation scene…

First things first, the wallpaper had to go. There is no doubt in my mind that I would rank this wallpaper removal as one of the most frightening experiences of my life…

Once the walls were primed and painted, the floors were next in line…

Finally after battling the most dreadful wallpaper decision of the 20th century, tearing through gallons of paint, uncovering hardwoods, revamping a light fixture and a smidge of decor, this dining room was in business.

8 After Party: Windows Turned Wall Art

>> Tuesday, July 27, 2010

When I stumbled across this fine trio of old windows at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore last week, they had to be mine. $10 later I was cruising home with my new best friends in tow…

IMG_6583

Clearly hanging these guys would require more than a nail or two so the proper hardware was a must. Opting for hooks and hinges that would allow the windows to be easily tilted/removed for cleaning was high on my list. More time consuming to install but ultimately worth the hassle…

Fabulously earth friendly & just the sort of cottage chic feeling this wall was craving…

Finally my dining room is starting to feel just a smidge more complete. Anyone for takeout?

9 Thrifty Find: Windows

>> Friday, July 23, 2010

Judging from my master bedroom set up, it wouldn’t take a Mensa member to figure out that I am smitten with old windows.

So my heart could not fathom the thought of turning away these three window finds from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore—especially with a $10.00 price tag…total!

These guys were in need of a home and I have just the spot in mind. Cue the massive, vacant dining room wall!

Check back next week to see how my three amigos settled into their new space. Happy weekend!

4 Table for 4…or 6…or 8

>> Thursday, May 20, 2010

We’ve been on the hunt for the perfect dining room table for years. Not weeks. Not months. Years.

The requirements:

- Dark stain
- No leaf
- Large enough to fit 8 chairs comfortably
- Small enough to fit an average sized dining room…let’s face it. We Wilkersons like to move and can’t stomach the thought of having to buy a new table for each change in dining location.

A picky crew we were and truth be told, we nearly gave up. Until the luckiest day landed right in our lap. During the 65th trip to the same furniture store to look at the same tables expecting to leave with the same empty hands, we found it. Search no more. Wrap this puppy up because we were sold.

Here’s why this beauty is the most perfect dining table for Wilkerson living.

Seats two per side…

…or three!

No leaf…

And thanks to the narrow frame, three chairs can fit comfortably on each side while keeping the table sleek and slim to fit your standard dining room.

Bring on the dinner parties! You pick up a bottle of wine and we’ll cook stop in for Chinese take-out.
