>> Thursday, June 9, 2011

Oh boy! It’s already time for another Before & After with Cara Wilkerson on At Home in Arkansas’ fabulous blog! I’m pumped for you guys to see the final result of the dresser rehab I’ve been hinting at for the past few weeks. Click here to shimmy on over to At Home’s blog for the complete how-to…

If you’re anything like Cara Wilkerson, your idea of a relaxing weekend involves pushing up your sleeves and rehabbing a lackluster piece furniture. And you can reap the benefits of Cara’s weekend projects right here each month! Today? She preps an old dresser for stylish storage in the kitchen.

3 Email Crashing

>> Wednesday, June 8, 2011

Some things make me happy—like spilling my home loving heart to you fine folks every day—and some things make me ecstatic…that you show up to actually read it! Big kisses and giant hugs all around BUT those of you who actually allow me to invade your email on a daily basis simply blow my mind.

A gigantic thank you very much to all of my wonderful LTHL friends who’ve

signed up to receive email updates from this very blog.

Because I love you all so very much, I’ll share with you this helpful tidbit: If your mean old boss blocks you from properly blog stalking on work computers, email updates are an exceptional way to bypass the system and still get your home fix. By no means am I trying to kick up a work place rebellion…I’m just throwing it out there…food for thought.

Happy Wednesday!

1 Google Nut: Simple Rooms

>> Monday, June 6, 2011

You LTHL old timers already know, but in case you are new to this neck of the blog-o-sphere, you need to know that my mind runs at a million miles an hour every second of every day. It explains a lot. As a result, I forget nearly everything and depend on a life knee-deep in to-do lists to keep my head on straight. Post-its in my day planner. Alerts on my iPhone. Highly detailed and prioritized Microsoft Outlook complete with a folder for nearly every person I’ve met in my entire life…

Friends make fun of my lack luster memory and overly detailed excel spreadsheets, but

I have a system and it works for me…most of the time. Until wires cross and my mind starts to overheat. At which point, I do one of three things.

#1 Vacate…as in to sunny sandy tropical places when funds allow.

#2 Walk…around my neighborhood singing to songs that only aid in further enabling my neighbors’ suspicions about my sanity. I blame Apple and all of their i-things for this one.

#3 Google…God’s gift to visual learning blog nerds like myself.

On my Monday afternoon coffee break, I opted for #3…Today’s Google Image keywords of choice: Simple Rooms.

I feel more organized already…

image
…and encouraged that this dining room light fixture needs to be knocked-off DIY style. My wheels are turning…
 image

…in my next house, I will have an all white room complete with an Astroturf lawn and a house slipper-wearing schnauzer-terrier mix to keep it as such…

image

…and when the day comes (many MANY moons from now) for me to have offspring, their rooms will look exactly like this. Always. Moms, don’t you dare smash my rose-colored glasses…

I feel better already and during my midday start-to-finish Google coffee break, I only added 8 more items to my to-do list.

3 On Raising a Delinquent

>> Friday, June 3, 2011

Every year our local Humane Society puts together a day planner featuring photos of folks around town with their furry friends.

Every year a few Charlotte John agents get together for a group picture to support the cause.

Every year I give my June Bug a bath and trim her little scraggly toenails and comb her little beard.

Every year we show up.

Every year we smile.

Every year.

Clearly a few have been practicing their best I-know-you’ve-got-a-treat-in-your-pocket smiles…

image
Sure, the little longhaired beauty in the front may have been a smidge confused about who actually was yelling Puppies! You wanna treat?! from behind the camera lens, but at least she’s looking at a person.

My June, on the other hand, would rather plot the murder of the neighbor’s squirrels than pretend like her mother taught her any manners.

What happened to this sweet face?…

Or these perky ears?

Even halfway asleep you manage to throw your best gremlin glance at the camera…

If this rebellion is a sign of the times to come, I’m in trouble. Soon my little angel will be sporting a spiked collar, chasing little boy dogs around the neighborhood and hoarding stolen milk bones under her dog bed. Heart break is real.

3 Feeling the Love: May Recap

>> Wednesday, June 1, 2011

Happy June, y’all! Can you believe it’s already here? Not only am I pumped for the warmer weather complete with swimming pools and skinny girl margaritas, but June also brings along plenty of reasons to celebrate since a considerable chunk of my friends were born in the sixth month of the year. I’m not saying a June birthday is a requirement to be a pal-o-mine, but I am saying that it sure is nice buying gifts in bulk and knocking out all the hoopla in one swoop…

image
Clearly I took the LSAT and got into law school—thank you very much—I just opted not to show up on the first day. A bullet successfully dodged. It’s obvious I’d much rather spend my days snooping around dusty old houses and living out my years elbow deep in oil-based paint.

I can feel myself sliding down a slippery slope of digression. What was the purpose of this post again?…Oh yes! Thanking all of the fabulous friends who linked to LTHL…
