5 Test Run: Spooky Halloween Votives
>> Friday, October 30, 2009
Spooky Halloween votive test run is complete and I loved every second of it! This project was fun, super simple and practically free.
I’m in the habit of saving old candle “shells” once the wax has melted away. So plenty of votive candle holders were already on hand…
Next, following How About Orange’s directions diligently, I selected free clipart online and printed using a laser printer. An inject printer will not work for this one, folks…
Then, cover each image with packaging tape and firmly press to make sure the toner grabs hold.
Cut out each image and soak in warm water for 10 minutes. I do realize that the photo below makes it appear as if my pretty candle decals are floating inside a toilet bowl, but I promise they are safely basking in a mixing bowl…
Once the decals have had time to soak, rub the paper from the backside of the tape so that only the toner remains.
The tape should still have sticking power to it, so now all you have to do is position your decal on the candle holder and press for a firm hold. Told you it was easy!
Take a look at my super scary owl candle creatures below…
Also, monograms for any time of year…
Another success in the craft department! Let’s try another, shall we? Stay tuned!

5 Killer Curb Appeal: Betsy’s Front Porch
For all of us looking to add color to our front porches, let’s pull a bit of inspiration from Betsy.
1. Stick to one or two bright colors. The bright red chairs and mums in shades of yellow and red add just the right amount of color to pep up this porch.
2. Bring nature to your front door. Why limit plants to the yard? Include potted and hanging plants on your front porch to make for a serene outdoor space.
3. Show your personality…modestly. Betsy does a great job of sharing that she is a Razorback fan without going hog-wild in the decor department.
Thanks again to Betsy for letting us snoop around your front yard!

1 Killer Curb Appeal: The Koehler’s Cozy Craftsman
Thanks to Andy & Shelly Koehler for sharing their home with us—well, for sharing the outside of their home with us—but that is what Killer Curb Appeal is all about! Bringing you local inspiration from your Little Rock neighbors.
Since the purchase their cozy Heights craftsman in May of 2008, the Koehlers have taken great care of their home, but what we especially love is their choice of seasonal decor. Going overboard with the fall flair may be tempting but also distracting to some buyers. The Koehlers’ lush mums, simple door decor and festive pumpkin provide an excellent example of how to cozy up your home for fall.
A big thanks to Andy & Shelly for letting us crash their place!

2 Spooky Halloween Votives
>> Friday, October 16, 2009
Receiving emails filled with ideas from friends really floats my boat. This past week, a little bird named Anna Kaye dropped me an email with a creepy craft from How About Orange enclosed. A lover of all things crafty, I was intrigued…
Super spooky, huh? I think these votives would be a fun addition to any Halloween extravaganza and, with a little tweaking, could be a project perfect for any time of the year.
Check back soon as we try this one on for size!
