8 Then & Now: Kitchen Corner

>> Monday, August 16, 2010

Less of a ‘before & after’ and more of a ‘then & now’, the kitchen still has a long way to go but who says we can’t ogle over the progress thus far? I’m the boss around these parts and I vote yes.

First, let’s recap on what this corner of the kitchen looked like just one short week ago…

There was no question. The wallpaper and “pizza hut” light fixture—a big thanks to Leslie for the spot on description—had definitely overstayed their welcome.

The time had come to peel…

Tweak the old light fixture and outfit with a new shade—check back tomorrow for the how-to—and this paint job was a wrap!

You have no idea how nice it is to walk into my kitchen without getting dizzy. Now that 1962 has been effectively erased from this corner, on to my next obsession: finding/rehabbing/building the perfect piece of furniture for this space…

I’m thinking a bistro table is a bit too obvious. Let’s see how we can add more storage and style to this nook…the wheels are turning.

Thanks, ladies! I already have a piece in mind for the kitchen and am so excited to share it with you! Just something I had laying around, but with a little tweaking it will be kitchen perfection!

ok so honestly, how long did it take you to get the wallpaper off? I'm still trying to get the nerve up to tackle my bathroom :(

It looks gorgeous, Cara! Very sleek - those chairs are awesome, and the light fixture works perfectly with the modern look.

Thanks, Kimberly! I feel your pain my friend.

CWL/Jamie, I was lucky with this paper. It peeled right off. I was able to knock it out in just a couple of minutes. I wasn't so lucky with my dining room though. Your bathroom may actually be easier than you think. Sometimes the steam from the shower breaks down the glue a bit over time. Here's the secret: score, spray with a vinegar & warm water combo, let sit for a few minutes and scrape. Works like a charm! You can do it, and I want to see those before & after pictures lady!

Kristen, you really know how to make this girl smile! Thanks for the nice words!
